UK Adult Dependent Visa

This category allows for an adult British citizen, settled person, refugee or person with humanitarian protection to sponsor a parent, grandparent, sibling or child over 18 to settle in the UK. The applicant must be able to show that there are the most exceptional compassionate circumstances which exist in relation to the applicant. This visa can only be applied for outside of the UK.

The applicant must be one of the following

• A parent aged 18 years are over
• A grandparent
• A brother or sister aged 18 years or over
• A son or daughter aged 18 years or over of a person who is the sponsor and is in the UK

The sponsor must at the date of application be:

• 18 years old or over, and
• A British citizen in the UK, or
• Present and settled in the UK, or
• Have refugee leave/humanitarian protection, or
• In the UK with pre-settled status.

If the applicant is not living alone it will be more difficult to meet the requirement of this category relating to the threshold requirement.

The threshold requirement essentially is a requirement for the applicant to require long-term personal care to perform everyday tasks due to age, illness, or disability which cannot be met through help provided by the sponsor because it is wholly unavailable whether from family members or otherwise or unaffordable.

The Entry Clearance Officer has the power to refer the applicant for a medical examination and to require that this be carried out by a medical professional on a list approved by the British Embassy or High Commission.
